SINGAPORE — Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has put up for tender a new residential-with-commercial site at Bernam Street in the Central Business District, about 75 per cent more dwelling units than earlier estimated. The 99-year leasehold site, which is on the Government Land Sales (GLS) confirmed list, was previously expected to yield up to 250 units.
One bernam, which translates to “all for one” in Malay, means that everyone is a part of the whole and it’s up to each individual to help ensure that all is well for the good of the collective. People with the name Bernam appear warm and approachable and tend to be natural caregivers, often going above and beyond for their loved ones. However, they must be careful not to get too involved in other people’s lives to the point of neglecting their own needs.
In run-of-the-river irrigation schemes such as that in the Bernam River basin, water demand rarely matches unreliable river streamflows. This makes it difficult to allocate water for paddy irrigation. Thus, this study investigates the impacts of climate change on future Bernam River Basin flow through simulations using the SWAT model.
Observed historical gridded hydro-meteorological data from eight stations for rainfall and two for temperature were used to set up the SWAT model. The model was then simulated under various RCP4.5, 6.0 and 8.5 emission scenarios to examine their impact on the Bernam River basin. Sensitivity analysis was performed to identify key parameters with significant impact on the simulation results.
